I was involved in a great place called Petrified Sea Gardens, in Saratoga Springs for many years. The park was home to almost an acre of stromatolite fossils, approximately 500 million years old. The fossils formed at the edge of a warm seashore. They are traces left by microscopic cyanobacteria. I’ve had several stromatolite photos published in textbooks. Sadly, the park closed in 2006 after a devastating wind storm.
